"We have completed border fencing in nearly 200 km of
Indo-Pak border in Jammu and Kashmir and the ongoing work of
border fencing and flood lighting has been intensified for
early completion," top defence sources told reporters here today.
The completion of 190 kms of Indo-Pak border, includes 86 km of International Border (IB) in Jammu-Kathua sector and 105 km of Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch-Rajouri and Baramulla-Kupwara sectors, they said.
Done by army and Border Security Force (BSF) troops themselves, border fencing is being almost daily targeted by Pakistani troops with light artillery and mortar shells to dismantle fencing, to kill troops engaged in the work and damage machinery, the sources said.
So far, 21 people of security agencies were killed and 54 injured along the IB and LoC during the border fencing and floodlighting work during last two years, they said.
