Kohima, Mar 03: State chief minister S C Jamir will submit his resignation to Governor Shyamal Datta today. Jamir told reporters that the Congress would be sitting in the Opposition since it was in a minority. This has put an end to speculations that congress might seek support of the independents and smaller parties who are not part of the NPF-led Democratic Alliance of Nagaland(DNA), he added. He alleged that the village council members were coerced into supporting the NPF. He said that his calculation was upset by the involvement of NSCN (IM) in the election.

The veteran Congress leader accepted responsibility for the defeat, saying that he had spoken to party president Sonia Gandhi about it.

He said that the party would stand by its manifesto even though it would be in the opposition. ''we want a peaceful nagaland and security of life and property should be ensured,'' he said, adding that the ceasefire ground rules were a ''farce'' and that the ceasefire monitoring group just a helpless spectator.
