Dehra Dun, Sept 17: Uttaranchal High Court today granted bail to suspended Delhi Additional Commissioner of Police Rajkumar Sharma in a rape case. A single bench of the high court in Nainital passed the order on a bail application moved by Sharma.
Passing the order, Justice Irshad Husain asked the chief judicial magistrate, Dehra Dun to fix bail sureties and personal bonds and release the senior police officer. Sharma would move the CJM's court in this regard on September 18, his counsel J D Jain told a news agency.
Earlier, the CJM and the district and sessions judge had dismissed Sharma's bail applications on August 27 and September 2 respectively saying the case was serious in nature and bail cannot be granted to him. Sharma, now lodged in Dehra Dun Jail, was arrested on August 23 after a married woman filed an fir alleging that he had raped her at his residence. He was subsequently produced before the court of CJM, who remanded him to 14-days judicial custody till September 5. On September 5, the CJM extended Sharma's remand for another 14 days, which expires on Setptember 19.
