Srinagar, Aug 05: Concerned over continuing
allegations of human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir,
ruling people's democratic party has asked the security forces
to adopt a more humane approach towards the people.
"Ever since the coalition Government came to power, human
rights violations have reduced considerably. But this is not
enough. Not even one human rights abuse should take place
as per our commitment to the people," PDP president Mehbooba Mufti told a day-long conference of party's ministers,
legislators, district and zonal presidents here yesterday.
Stating that healing touch was not a mere policy but an article of faith, Mehbooba expressed hope that the security forces would reorient their strategy to ensure that there remained no chances of human rights violations. Lauding the Government's decision to punish those involved in Pathribal DNA fudging case, the party sought similar action against those guilty of alleged custodial killings. Mehbooba expressed satisfaction that the Government had taken some bold decisions to tackle the growing problem of unemployment which included creation of 28,000 posts of teachers and contract employment in some departments.
The party also demanded early recruitment for the home and health force, seven battalions of which have been sanctioned by the Centre for border areas of the state.
Reviewing the political situation, the party noted with satisfaction that the initiatives taken by the coalition Government have changed the scenario not only within the state but also brought India and Pakistan close
