Lucknow, May 16: Breaking her silence over the sensational murder of Madhumita Shukla, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today said the guilty will not be spared. Addressing a press conference today in the state capital, Mayawati said she has already issued instructions to the police to leave no stone unturned in unravelling the case. Speaking to Zee Newsstate police chief Hakim Singh denied that there was any political pressure on the police in investigating the case. "We are pursuing the probe with total independence." No arrests have been made in relation to the case till now. Adding to the complex situation facing the police are the impending visit of BJP president Venkaiah Naidu to the state capital on May 18 and that of the Prime Minister on May 20.

Meanwhile, in a volte face, the sister of Madhumita, whose murder has been linked to UP minister for stamps and stationery, A M Tripathi, today said that neither the minister nor any of his family had a role in the killing.

"I have been misquoted by a section of media which went ahead and said that I blamed Amarmani Tripathi and his wife, Madhurmani, for the murder of my sister," Nidhi Shukla told newspersons here.

Nidhi, who had earlier alleged that the minister's wife was involved, said that Madhumita had no personal relationship with the minister and might have met him in connection with 'kavi sammelans' that she used to frequent.

To a question, Nidhi said her family has not made any demand for a CBI inquiry into the killing.

Nidhi, however, sounded sceptical of the police protection provided to the family here and said they were not comfortable with the two cops posted at their house.

Madhumita's sister also raised doubts over the role of the Lucknow police and said she feared that evidences could be destroyed or new evidences planted at their Lucknow residence to suit the motive of policemen.
