Security beefed up in Patan for Independence day
Ahmedabad, Aug 14: Security has been beefed up in the historic city of Patan in north Gujarat where Chief Minister Narendra Modi would hoist the tricolour on the occasion of Independence day celebrations tomorrow.

About one thousand policemen and 75 traffic police personnel have been strategically deployed in view of recent intelligence report received by the state police from the centre about possible suicide attacks by the terrorists in the state, official sources said here today.
In addition to this, 500 home guards and five companies of state reserve police force have been put in place to assist in maintaining law and order.
Director general of police K Chakravarthi had said yesterday that, "all security arrangements that are usually made at state capital Gandhinagar would be replicated at Patan and officials will ensure that the ceremony passes off peacefully."

Senior officials also said in view of several VIPs
visiting the city, elaborate traffic arrangements have also
been made to ensure smooth movement of vehicles.
