New Delhi, July 23: Seven militants of Pakistan-backed Harkat-ul-Jehad-e-Islam outfit were today chargesheeted under Pota for planning to target and kidnap VIPs, including cricket stars Sachin Tendulkar and Saurav Ganguly, and blast important installations. The chargesheet was filed by police in the court of designated judge S N Dhingra against Tariq Mehmood alias Naeem, Ashahaq Ahmed alias Dilshad, Mohammed Ashraf, Abdul Majid, Mohammed Amran (all Pakistan nationals), Jallaluddin alias Rana, a Bangladeshi, and Mufti Mohammed Asrar from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
They have been charged under Pota, various provisions of Indian Penal Code, arms act, explosives substance act and the foreigners act for illegaly entering the country to execute their plans which included helping some Pakistani terrorists like Abdul Rehman and Nasrullah Langrial lodged in Tihar and Jodhpur jails respectively, to flee.
While Rehman has been sentenced to death for kidnapping and killing a foreign tourist, Langrial is facing trial for various subversive activities. Police claimed that the seven had close connection with Aftab Ansari, main accused in the American Centre shootout case. Ansari, has been extradited from Dubai along with his associate Arshad Khan for trial.
Police said that a supplimentary chargesheet against Ansari and Khan for their role in the case, would be submitted later before the court which fixed tomorrow for taking cognizance on it.
