Mumbai, June 09: Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company Ltd has reported a 67.9 per cent rise in total sales, including exports, at 21,929 vehicles in the month of May over the same period of last year. Domestic sales in the reporting period were higher by 67.8 per cent at 20,715 units, the company said in a release here today.

Sales of commercial vehicles rose by 37.3 per cent at 9,800 units (7,140 in May 2002), it said.

The growth in medium and heavy commercial vehicles was 29.3 per cent at 6,389 while that of light commercial vehicles increased by 55.3 per cent at 3,411 units, it said.

Cumulative sales of commercial vehicles for the current fiscal stood at 16,848 vehicles, an increase of 24 per cent over 13,587 units sold in same period of last year.

Tata Engineering registered a total domestic sale of 10,915 passenger vehicles in May 2003, a rise of 110 per cent.

Indica sales were pegged at 6,772 units (2,995 units), a growth of 126 per cent. Indigo clocked sales volumes of 1,983 units.

Utility vehicle sales were 2,160 units with Safari growing at 15 per cent.

The company reported exports of 789 commercial vehicles in April-May, a growth of 9.7 per cent. The passenger car business unit reported a sale of 1,267 units, showing a rise of 301 per cent over same period of last year, it added.
