New Delhi, July 11: CBI has arrested two defence officials, including a garrison engineer of Military Engineering Service, for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe in two different incidents. In the first case, a garrison engineer posted at Jorhat, Assam was arrested for allegedly accepting Rs 50,000 from a private contractor for clearing his pending bills and awarding him further contracts, a CBI spokesman said here today.
The accused had demanded Rs 1,20,000 from the contractor who informed the agency. Acting on his complaint, the CBI laid a trap and arrested the official, the spokesman said. In another incident, a local audit officer working in the office of the principal controller of defence accounts, Jammu, was arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a havaldar.
The officer had demanded the amount from the havaldar for clearing the audit objections raised by the accused in respect of their regiment, he said. The sleuths have also seized Rs 36,000 and 12 bottles of liquor from his possession. Bureau Report
