Siliguri, June 13: The Bagdogra Airport in north Bengal would be given international status soon, Union Minister for Tourism Jagmohan has said. Necessary paperwork for granting the status for Bagdogra was in progress, the minister told newspersons yesterday.

Jagmohan expressed concern over spurt in construction of high rises in the hills and said local administration should take steps to ensure that no illegal buildings came up.
Jagmohan, who visited Sharbari garden at the invitation of Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council chairman Subash Ghising had talks with the district administration on tourism-related issues.

The minister told the local administration to take steps to improve power supply, water supply and roads to help boost tourism in Dareejling hills.

The minister would inaugurate Kanchanjungha tourism festival here tomorrow.
