Demonstrations and burning of Pakistani flags marked the BJP-sponspored Jammu bandh, to protest Saturday's massacre of 13 Hindus in Doda district, which passed off peacefully today even as curfew continued without any relaxation in Kishtwar and Baderwah towns.
Normal life was adversely affected in most parts of the division with shops and business establishments remaining closed and vehicular traffic keeping off roads and highways. The bandh also affected work in government offices, banks, public sector undertakings and educational institutions.
Barring some stray incidents of burning of Pakistani flags and tyres in some parts of the city by protesters, the situation remained peaceful by and large in the entire division, a police spokesman said in Jammu. He said that some protest demonstrations were also held in Rajouri, Poonch and Udhampur towns during the bandh, supported by various social, religious and political organisations.
