Kohima, Nov 19: Amidst reports of violence in neighbouring Assam following series of attacks on railway passengers hailing from the North-East, Nagaland government has stepped up measures to ensure peace in the state "at any cost." State home minister T M Lotha, in a communique, today asked all deputy commissioners of districts in the state, particulary in Dimapur and Kohima which are inhabited by both tribals and non-tribals, to ensure that peace is maintained.
He also asked the district administrations to adopt measures so that no retaliatory action against the recent attacks on North East passengers in Bihar takes place in Nagaland, official sources said here today.
Chief Secretary R S Pandey said the government would take all necessary measures to protect the Bihari community in the state. Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, leaders of various political parties in the state, students organisations and NSCN(I-M), have condemned the attacks on railway passengers and called upon the people to exercise restrain and show their maturity.
Rio had already talked to his counterpart Rabri Devi and RJD chief Laloo Prasad Yadav after reports of the assault of a girl at Jamalpur in Bihar and was assured that the culprits would be punished and such recurrence of such incidents would be stopped. Bureau Report
