Hyderabad, July 23: A bill to amend the Indian Stamp
(Andhra Pradesh) Act 1899 to overcome shortage of stamps of
various denominations was today introduced in the state
assembly by revenue minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju.
Following inability of Central Stamp Depot (CSD), Nasik,
to meet the growing demand for stamps of specific category and
right denomination, amendment to the bill would enable the use
of franking machines by some state owned companies.
Duly notified companies and corporations like LIC, BSNL, Apgenco, Aptransco and others would be allowed to use franking machines for stamping as an alternative. The amendment would also allow the incorporated companies to go for consolidated payment of stamp duty.
