New Delhi, June 26: Taekwondo enthusiasts will get an opportunity to witness experts showcase their skills when a 20-member taekwondo team from South Korea give demonstrations in New Delhi and Mumbai later this month.
The highly-trained masters of taekwondo, the traditional martial art of Korea, will perform in New Delhi on June 28 and Mumbai on June 30 to mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and the Republic of Korea. "To celebrate the occasion, the South Korean government has decided to send the taekwondo team to India. It will help in popularising the sport in India, and I hope the Indian people will take the opportunity to see these highly trained masters", the South Korean ambassador Kwon Soon-Tae told reporters here today. "It is a good occasion for people to people contact between the two countries. It will be very satisfying if the young people evince some interest in this martial art", Soon-Tae said. The ambassador said South Korea was trying to send a taekwondo expert to India to train Indian youngsters. "We are discussing with the Taekwondo Federation of India on sending a trainer to India. Hopefully, we will be able to send one trainer by next year", he said.

The taekwondo demonstrations are being organised by the embassy of South Korea in association with Sports Authority of India, Taekwondo Federation of India and the Confederation of Indian Industry.
