Mugello, June 08: Daijiro Kato, who died following a crash at the Grand Prix of Japan, is to be admitted to the MotoGP Hall of Fame and have his number retired. The announcement was made before Saturday's final qualifying session for the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello.
After consultations with Kato's father, who was a special guest in Italy, it was decided that Kato will be honoured at the Pacific Grand Prix in Motegi, Japan, in October.
Kato's number 74 will be officially presented to his family members, who from then on will have to approve of any rider using it. Kato, 26, died after sustaining head, neck and chest injuries at Suzuka in April.
It was also announced at Mugello that the Gulf state of Qatar will stage a round of the championship from next season. A track is due to be built on the outskirts of the capital Doha.
Nasser Khalifa Al-Attiyah, head of the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation, said: "We are really happy to have signed this contract.

"It is the first time in the Middle East that we will welcome this famous sport, and we hope that it will add to the spectacle. It is a great moment for us and we look forward to seeing everybody in 2004."

The deal will see the first Qatar Grand Prix being staged in autumn 2004 and will run for five years.
