Normal life was disrupted in east and west Khasi hills district of Meghalaya on Tuesday, the second day of the three-day picketing of state and Central government offices and educational institutions by the Khasi Students Union (KSU), official sources said.
State and central government offices, educational institutions and banking institutions came to a halt in these two districts due to the picketing, they said.
The Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) of Ri Bhoi district, S L Marak told the news agency over phone that the attendance of government employees in the district was 39 per cent and schools and colleges functioned normally.
Meanwhile, general secretary of the Meghalaya Parents And Guardians' Association (MPGA) of public schools, Phillip Marwein said the association would immediately write to the KSU to exempt educational institutions from the purview of KSU bandhs and picketing.
Speaking to reporters Marwein said, “frequent bandhs and picketings called by the KSU had affected students in the state. Marwein said the association would also write a letter to the government to look into the demands of the KSU.
