Mumbai, May 30: Subscribers between Mumbai and Delhi will be able to send picture messages to each other. BPL Mobile and Idea Cellular on Thursday became the first operators in the country to provide interconnect for Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS). Both BPL and Idea were the first to commercially launch MMS in their respective markets. Recipients who do not have MMS-compatible mobile handsets can receive their multimedia messages either on their e-mails or as an SMS notification on their existing handsets.
FB Cardoso, president & CEO, BPL Mobile said, “With the sharing of MMS becoming possible, we expect to see high MMS usage from the forwarding of photo images.”
Idea follows SMS-based pricing, where there is no fixed commitment. There is no activation fee or monthly rental for this service and its a “pay for what you use.” Across Delhi and NCR, any subscriber can download pictures or video clips for as low as 15 paise per KB and forward the same as a multimedia message for just Rs 5 per message.
