Guwahati, June 06: BJP today launched its parliamentary poll campaign in the North East exhorting partymen to focus on development issues and good governance. BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu said the people in the region were disillusioned with the Congress and were now looking to his party for good governance.

He was inaugurating the two-day NE zonal meet of BJP leaders, MLAs and ministers here.

"The people in the North East are looking to the lotus (BJP symbol) as they know BJP does not discriminate and the Centre under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee is ready to improve things in the region," Naidu asserted.

"We need a stronger and larger mandate to realise the country's full potential to become a developed one. We want to focus on the NE region and get elected representatives," he said.

Asking his partymen to "iron out the grey areas," Naidu told them to come forward with new ideas to make the people of the region feel that "they were a part of the national mainstream."
