Rochester (New York), Aug 16: Tiger Woods struggled through another day of frustration at the 85th PGA championship, but warned a jumbled field of contenders that he remains a threat even at nine strokes off the lead.
The world number one, never near missing the cut but unable to make a run at the leaders either, made 10 Pars in a row while most of the field stumbled, but took bogeys at the 16th and 18th to finish at two-over Par 72 yesterday.
At six-over Par 146 for 36 holes, Woods stood in a share of 39th, nine back of leader Shaun Micheel. He improved 19 spots after a disappointing 74 on Thursday while Oak Hill Country Club crushed contenders and had scores soaring.
"Heading into tomorrow, I just need to give myself some looks at the putts," Woods said. "You just know that you have to be very patient and if you can somehow get back to near Par, you'll have a chance of winning the tournament."
Woods predicted level Par after 72 holes would win because the course will only become more of a test this weekend.

"It will be tougher, which is fine," Woods said. "If it stays like this and they don't cut the rough anymore, it's going to be hard to get the ball close.

"I thought I hit good shots but didn't hit it close. That's disappointing. When you have wedges in your hand you should make a swing that's going to get you in Birdie range. I thought I did."

Driver problems that haunted his first round arose again on day two, the Titleist Club he picked over his Nike driver showing no improvement.
