Normal life was affected in Manipur on Saturday due to the 66-hour state bandh, which began on Friday midnight to protest the extension of ceasefire between the NSCN (I-M) and the Centre to Manipur territory.
Official reports from districts said markets, shops, business establishments and offices remained closed in view of the band sponsored by 83 social organisations including the All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO). Vehicular traffic between Imphal and district headquarters and Manipur and neighbouring states was also suspended, official sources said adding that attendance in the state secretariat was almost nil.
Reports said that the bandh also affected normal life in hill districts. It also said roads and streets in four valley districts --Imphal east, Imphal west, Thoubal and Bishnupur-- wore a deserted look with people preferring to remain indoors. Bureau Report
