Mexico City, Mar 04: Real Madrid announce that they will open a soccer school in Mexico later this year.
Jorge Valdano, the Sporting Director of Spanish soccer giants Real Madrid was in Mexico City on Tuesday (March 02) as the team opens its first-ever academy outside of Spain. Valdano said that Mexico was a natural place for the school's location. "We decided on Mexico to start (the first Real Madrid academy outside of Spain) because we know that we are loved in this country from the presence of (Anahuac University Rector and former Real Madrid player) Hugo Sanchez in Real Madrid," said Valdano. "From the unforgettable presence of Hugo Sanchez and Real Madrid, there is a good (sized) group of fans."
Sanchez had a hugely successful spell playing for Real between 1985 and 1992, the team winning five consecutive league titles, the UEFA Cup and the Copa del Rey in during his time at the Bernabeau.

About 400 students, aged 6 to 17, have been training for several weeks at the campus located at the Anahuac University.

Talks began for the school last summer, and Real Madrid has said there will be a limit of 1,000 students. The cost is some $100 (US) per month to practice, learn and train under the watchful eyes of Spanish coaches.
