Kolkata, Oct 22: Indian tennis star Leander Paes, recuperating from a brain lesion suffered in August, today said he was aiming for an Olympic gold in Athens next year even though his return to the circuit remained undecided till further medical check up later this month.
"Olympics is one event I am getting ready for. This time I want to have something better than a bronze... An Olympic gold," Paes said on his arrival here from Mumbai this morning.

The Davis Cup Goliath, who rated success for the country "more than a Wimbledon triumph", termed the Olympic dream as "the single most driving factor" behind his efforts for an early rehabilitation after the prolonged treatment.

He, however, was still undecided about making a return to the circuit at the doubles championships of the tennis Masters Cup in Houston from November 8-16.
"I am waiting for the next MRI scan report, to be done by Dr B S Singhal in Mumbai on October 26 or 27. I will decide whether to play or not in Houstan after the scan," he said.
Paes said he has started some gymnasium work, biking, swimming and weight training but was till not allowed to play tennis. "I am on 50 per cent of the threshold of recovery."
Once back on court, the 30-year-old player wants to achieve "two land-marks" more in his sprawling tennis career during the year ahead.
Taking part in his fourth Olympics and winning a gold and winning four more Davis Cup matches to become the second highest cup match winner in the world, the 'never say die' Kolkatan said of his targets.
