Shahabuddin`s bail plea rejected
Siwan, Aug 07: A local court today rejected the anticipatory bail application of controversial RJD MP Mohammed Shahabuddin in connection with a kidnapping case.
Siwan, Aug 07: A local court today rejected the anticipatory bail application of controversial RJD MP Mohammed Shahabuddin in connection with a kidnapping case.
After hearing the arguments of Shahabuddin's counsel and
the additional public prosecutor, sessions judge Abhijit
Sinha, who had earlier reserved his order, turned down the
MP's plea for anticipatory bail.
The rejection of the bail petition dealt a severe blow to the fugitive RJD Lok Sabha member from Siwan, Shahabuddin, engaged in a verbal duel with DGP D P Ojha, who had ordered the execution of arrest warrant against him on July 30.
Appearing on behalf of Shahabuddin, Isthdeo Tiwari and Abhay Kumar Singh argued that the allegations against their client were based on hearsay and there was no direct evidence to prove his complicity in the kidnapping of CPI-ML worker Munna Chaudhary in January 2001.
They said his client's name was included in the FIR seven days after the kidnapping without any direct or indirect evidence against him.
APP Ramnath Prasad opposed the bail plea on the ground that the police had evidence against Shahabuddin in the kidnap case and his prayer shall not be allowed.
Earlier, the police also submitted the case diary to the court.
A large number of Shahabuddin's supporters gathered at the court since morning.
A day after filing of anticipatory bail application by Shahabuddin's counsel, the district judge had on August two while hearing the plea of the MP, refused to stay the execution of the arrest warrant and had asked the police to submit the case diary today. Bureau Report
