Midnapore (WB), May 31: As many as 1,800 goats were sacrificed on the occasion of 'sashan Kali Puja' at Tibbheri-Begunbari village of West Bengal's east Midnapore district early today. The Kali Puja is held every year at the village this time and considered 'very auspicious' to the tribal people, according to Niranjan Sihi, CPI (M) leader and outgoing Zilla Sabhadhipati of east Midnapore district, who also attended the sacrificial ceremony.
Sihi said here today that about 10,000 SC/ST devotees from neighbouring Jharkhand, Bihar and Orissa states participated in the puja last night.
Besides Sihi, Somen Mohapatra (Trinamool Congress) Chittadas Thakur (CPI) legislators also attended the religious function.
