Bhubaneswar, Nov 03: Impasse continued in the Orissa assembly for the third day today over the opposition demand for a judicial probe into the alleged rape and murder of a city school girl with congress members stalling the proceedings of the house amid unruly scenes. One Congress member broke a chair while another stood on the reporter's table during the opposition protest against the incident forcing the speaker to adjourn the house for lunch recess.
The opposition members, who allowed the question hour, earlier took the floor demanding that the government should order a judicial probe into the charges.
Leader of opposition Ramakanta Mishra said it had been agreed by leaders of different parties at the meeting held on Saturday convened by the speaker, Sarat Kumar Kar, that at least a CBI probe should be ordered into the allegation.
The government should now clarify the matter, he said.
Minister of State for Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Panchanan Kanungo and government Chief Whip Pradip Maharathy urged the opposition members not to continue their demand on the issue keeping in view of the agony of the parents of the girl who was no more.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had earlier stated in the house that there was no basis to the allegation as the parents of the girl, who died due to illness, had denied the report that she had been raped. The same was also corroborated by the inquiry conducted by the DIG of Police, Bhubaneswar Range, Patnaik said. Bureau Report
