United Nations envoy Razali Ismail believes his efforts to end Myanmar's 12-year-political deadlock will bear fruit soon, an aide to opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi said Thursday.
Razali, who is mediating between Myanmar's military junta and the opposition
in a bid to restore democracy in the country, expressed the opinion during an
hour-long talks with members of the central executive committee of Suu Kyi's
National League for Democracy party.
"Razali said there will be a new development coming soon," NLD secretary U Lwin told reporters after the meeting. He said Razali didn't elaborate or give details except to say that he will be returning to Myanmar in two months.
Razali himself didn't say anything to reporters beyond making general statements.
Asked for his assessment of Myanmar's political situation, Razali said: "I have not finished my visit. It's only half way but I am hopeful." Bureau Report
