New Delhi, Jan 31: Some of India`s renowned artistes
from various fields will converge in the Capital today to
bring afresh the message of the Indian National Flag through
poetry, music and painting to the youth.
"Tiranga", a celebration of the Indian flag, has been
conceived by a group of artists, painters and musicians "who
aim to generate a sense of patriotism and spread the true
meaning and essence of our national flag to the younger and
future generations of our country," Durga Jasraj, daughter of
renowned singer Pt Jasraj and one of the organisers told
reporters here today.
President APJ Abdul Kalam will be the chief guest at the
event which will begin with a trek down memory lane taking one back to 1906 when the flag evolved to become the "Tiranga".
Performances by Indian classical maestros Pandit Jasraj, Shiv Kumar Sharma, U Shrinivas and Javed Akhtar on the four elements of the national flag each reflecting unique energy - saffron- light; white- peace; green -growth; Ashok Chakra-speed - would follow. On the new interpretations given to the colours of the flag, Javed Akhtar said "we are not disputing any view but just saying that this is our viewpoint".
Taking a dig at politicians, he said "political scenarios will come and go but the flag will remain the same".
The programme includes recitation of five poems written by Akhtar on the flag with each poem to be followed by a musical performance by Jasraj, Shrinivas, Zakir Hussain and Shiv Kumar Sharma. The event would culminate in the final amalgamation or "crescendo" featuring all the musicians, Jasraj said. Bureau Report
