Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi kept the important ministries of home, general administration and information and broadcasting to himself, while announcing the portfolios to his two-day old ministry on Tuesday.
Mr Modi also has charge of Narmada, science and technology, ports, industrial policy, policies of energy and mines and minerals. Mr Suresh Mehta, who enjoys the number two position in the cabinet, has been given other equally important ministries including the departments of industries, parliamentary affairs, tourism and civil aviation, information technology and salt industry, while the finance ministry has been allotted to nitin Patel.
Mr Fakir Vaghela has been given social justice and empowerment, which include welfare of scheduled caste, prohibition and excise. While labour and employment ministry will be looked after by Mr kanji patel. Departments of water supplies, capital planning and urban housing has been given to Mr Narottam Patel, and Ms Anandiben Patel, the only women member in the cabinet so far, has been allotted education (primary, secondary and adult) as well as women and children welfare.
Mr Kaushik Patel has been given energy, petrochemicals and planning departments while agriculture department has been allotted to Mr Purushottam Rupala. Health and family welfare department has been given to Mr I K Jadeja.
