Hollywood, May 17: "Matrix Reloaded," the second round in brothers Andy and Larry Wachowski's sci-fi trilogy, grossed a record 42.5 million dollars in its nationwide premier Thursday, CBS marketwatch report said yesterday. The record was announced earlier by AOL Time Warner, parent company of the film's producer, Warner brothers. The film's gross was the biggest ever in the United States on the day of its release, AOL Time Warner President Richard Parsons told the company's annual stockholders' meeting in Landsdowne, Virginia, yesterday.

The previous record belonged to the film "Spiderman," which grossed 39.4 million on the day of its release last year. "The Matrix", part one of the trilogy, grossed 28 million on the day of its release four years ago.

AOL Time Warner is looking forward to a bumper year. In a few weeks "terminator 3: rise of the machine" makes its debut and next November, The Matrix trilogy will come full circle with "The Matrix Revolutions."
