Maharashtra chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh is likely to go in for a second re-shuffle of his 55-member ministry on July 10, a week ahead of the monsoon session of the state legislature, Mantralaya sources said on Tuesday. Deshmukh is holding consultations with his deputy and NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal to finalise the changes as well as additions to the ministry, the sources informed. The last reshuffle of the ministry was effected in the first week of March, just before the commencement of the budget session of the assembly. Five ministers were axed including the chief minister's rival and Vidarbha heavyweight Ranjit Deshmukh. Five new faces were inducted and two were promoted to cabinet rank.
Besides this, Deshmukh had shifted another chief ministerial aspirant, Rohidas Patil from the prestigious housing portfolio to agriculture. Moreover, Patangrao Kadam was divested of the water conservation department. Another minister, Makhram Pawar, beloging to the Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh, had resigned after his party decided to withdraw from the government on the issue of Enron and Vidarbha statehood. Pawar was removed from the BBM by its leader Prakash Ambedkar. Now, Ambedkar has written to the chief minister expressing the desire of his party to re-join the government and has even suggested the name of party MLA Dasharath Bhande for a cabinet rank.
The chief minister had earlier said that a decision on inclusion of a BBM member in the cabinet would be taken before the start of the monsoon session.
