Johannesburg, July 23: Malaysia caused the first upset of the BDO Men's Champions Challenge hockey tournament by defeating England 4-1. Spain went to the top of the Champions Challenge table with a 3-2 victory over New Zealand on Tuesday (July 22). Spain are ahead of South Africa on goal difference, both sides having six points from their three matches. After England had taken an early lead, Malaysia struck back to go in to the half time break level at 1-1. Malaysia dominated the second half, scoring three unanswered goals as their constant pressure broke down the English defense. Spain claimed a thrilling victory over New Zealand, scoring the deciding goal with just two seconds of the match remaining.

New Zealand scored early in each half but it wasn't enough for them to gain a point from the match.

Trailing by a goal just after half time, Spain struck back immediately through Eduard Tubau to draw level. They then sealed the win with a dramatic final second tap-in from Rodrigo Garza.

Second placed South Africa also left it late in their match, striker Steve Evans scoring with two minutes left to give his side a 3-2 win over South Korea.

South Africa created plenty of goal scoring opportunities, but unlike in their defeat to England on Sunday when they failed to take them, this time they made no mistake.
