Islamabad, Aug 25: As the week-long nationwide strike by Pakistan's cable operators to protest the ban on Indian TV channels entered the second day today, private networks in the country were the worst hit.
Private TV channels like, ARY, GEO and Indus appeared to be the worst hit as Pakistan Cable Operators Association (PCOA) uniformly removed them from air last evening.
While cable operators in Lahore, Karachi and Peshawar targeted international channels like BBC, CNN and Fox along with the Pakistani channels, some of the operators in Islamabad showed the foreign channels but removed the Pakistan private channels from air.
Only the four state owned PTV channels were being shown as a protest.
"The cable operators strike has hit us very badly, specially in places like Lahore, Karachi and Peshawar even though it was not so much in Islamabad and Rawalpindi", Hamid Mir, a well known anchor and journalist of GEO said here while reacting to the agitation by cable operators.
As a result of the strike, people were rushing to buy satellite dishes to watch the channels of their choice, he said.
Mir termed as "frivolous" Pakistan government's argument that it was continuing the ban on Indian channels to protect Pakistan channels.
