In a major breakthrough, police on Saturday arrested six persons, associated with fundamentalist outfit National Development Front (NDF), wanted in connection with the murder of a CPI-M sympathiser Binu on June 2 in Avolam near Nadapuram in Kozhikode. The six were picked up from around Kozhikode on Saturday morning, director general of police R Padmanabhan and crime branch additional DGP R S Mushahari told reporters in Thiruvananthapuram.
The names of those arrested were given as Nassar, Nizar, Sadat Master, Soopy Master, Ambalil Muhammad Ali and Nissar. The first two were involved in the execution of the murder and the rest in the conspiracy to do away with Binu, hatched 20 days before the execution.
Eight others wanted in the case are still at large. Sadat Master was said to be the Badagara district chairman of NDF and the others its council members. Binu's murder last month triggered a fresh bout of violence in the Nadapuram area which has a history of clashes involving CPI-M and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) workers.
Saturday’s arrest was effected by a Crime Branch/CID special team led by superintendent Subhash.
