Jakarta, Oct 16: An Indonesian court today sentenced two men to 12 and eight years in prison for bombing a McDonald's outlet and a car dealership in South Sulawesi province. Judges in the city of Makassar jailed Masnur bin Abdul Latif and Ilham Riady for 12 and eight years respectively for the bombings on December 5, Muhammad Arifin Ghani, head of the Makassar prosecutor's office, said.
The blast at the McDonald's in Makassar killed three people, including the suicide bomber. Another at the car showroom caused no casualties. Judges will pass verdicts on three other defendants later today.
Some 20 suspects are in custody and three people have been jailed for up to seven years for their role in the bombings. Police have said some suspects in the Makassar bombings knew those behind the Bali blasts on October 12 last year, which killed 202 people.
Investigators have blamed the Bali attack on Jemaah Islamiyah, an al-Qaeda-linked regional terror network. Bureau Report
