Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee Tuesday said India is making efforts to have greater role in the establishment of a broad-based, non-aligned and fully representative post-Taliban regime in Afghanistan. ''We are making efforts so that we have maximum possible role in the future of Afghanistan,” Vajpayee said while responding to a debate on the international situation arising out of the September 11 terrorist attacks in the US leading to international intervention in Afghanistan and its impact on India.
The Prime Minister said India sought a future dispensation in Afghanistan, which, unlike the Taliban, did not allow the country to be used for terrorist activities. Stating that any division of Afghanistan will not be in the interest of anyone, he said New Delhi's efforts with the international community were to ensure that this did not happen. Bureau Report
