Jalandhar, Oct 17: Close on the heels of a case against Indi-popper Daler Mehndi and his brother Shamsher Mehndi on charges of fraud and cheating, police today arrested another renowned Punjabi singer Sukhwinder Panchhi here for allegedly cheating a woman who wanted to send her son abroad. The singer was arrested from his Basant Avenue residence on the complaint of a woman Gafoor Bibi, a resident of Srihn village near here, who alleged that Panchhi had taken an amount of Rs 2.95 lakh from her for sending her son Manzoor Ahmed to Italy in September 1999 but the singer neither sent her son abroad nor returned her money, police sources said.

Bibi alleged although the settlement was reached at an amount of Rs 3.50 lakh, she paid only Rs 2.95 only along with Manzoor's passport. The final installment was to be given at the time of departure, the sources said adding after thorough investigation, a case of cheating and criminal breach of trust was registered against the singer.

The woman, in her complaint, stated that after repeatedly asking for her money, Panchhi had given her a cheque of Rs 1.3 lakh but it was dishonoured due to insufficient funds.

Panchhi was earlier arrested from a guest house in New Delhi by Delhi Police a few months back on similar charges.
