New Delhi, Oct 10: Expressing shock over the theft of classified computer discs from the DRDO facility here, Congress today sought a joint inquiry by Intelligence Bureau and Research and Analysis Wing into the incident. Party spokesman S Jaipal Reddy told reporters that the party also wanted a "comprehensive" statement from the Prime Minister on the extent of damage inflicted on the nation`s defence.

"We are deeply shocked to learn about the huge theft of super sensitive data from the premises of the DRDO facility metcalfe house here. Congress demands that the investigation of the alarming incident be entrusted to a joint team of RAW and IB," he said.

Pointing out that the stolen discs were used by the special analysis group and the institute for system studies and analysis to process sensitive data, he said in such an exigency it was mandatory for the defence ministry to inform the RAW, central intelligence bureau and external affairs ministry about the extent of loss.

"The objective is to undertake urgent corrective measures to pre-empt any serious compromise of the national security apparatus," he said adding that "we are astonished to learn that these measures were not undertaken. As such, RAW, IB and mea were kept in the dark. As a result, our security on the border and diplomatic missions abroad have been rendered vulnerable".
