Ojha removed as Bihar DGP for violating service rule: Laloo
Patna, Dec 06: Defending removal of Bihar Director General of Police D P Ojha, RJD president Laloo Prasad Yadav today said the action was purely on official grounds as he violated the service code by openly attacking politicians.
The RJD chief said the state government had also decided to initiate departmental proceedings against Ojha, following a letter from CBI some time ago, on the charge of suppressing investigation into the fodder scam as Additional Director General (vigilance).
Stating that the DGP had political ambitions and was hobnobbing with the BJP, Yadav dismissed Ojha's charge as utter falsehood that he was removed because he had submitted a report to the state government against Mohammed Shahabuddin.
Had it been so, the state government would have removed Ojha as DGP when he ordered re-opening of old cases against the MP. "Our government promoted him and he has stabbed us in the back," Yadav said adding even the state police was up in arms against Ojha for his remark at a function of the Bihar Chamber of Commerce where he had described 80 per cent of policemen as corrupt.
The RJD president said if Shahabuddin, incarcerated in Siwan jail, was found guilty "nobody would be able to save him. The law will take its course”.
Apart from making public speeches criticising
politicians Ojha did little to improve the functioning of the
state police, Yadav alleged.
Even when police officials were killed by criminals or
Naxalites, the DGP never once cared to pay a visit to their
families, he said.
When pointed out that the officer had announced to resign
from service, he said, now he will be a free man and can work
for changing the system. He has for long had political
ambitions and was hobnobbing with the BJP, the RJD chief said.
Yadav claimed Bihar Police association and Bihar
policemen's association had approached him and the Chief
Minister Rabri Devi complaining about irregularities in
procurement of uniforms and motor launches during Ojha's
tenure as DGP. The government is looking into the matter and
if the allegations are found to be true a CBI probe into the
purchases will be ordered, he said.
The RJD leader said both he and Rabri Devi had tried to
convince Ojha to refrain from making public statements against
the government and politicians but he never cared to pay heed.
He even on several occasions committed insubordination by not
giving information that was sought by the Chief Minister, he
charged.
