Srinagar, June 18: With tourism picking up gradually in the state, Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to raise over 900 dwelling units for government officials in Srinagar and Jammu, currently accommodated in hotels and tourist reception centre, exclusively meant for holiday-makers. Passing the orders for construction of the dwelling units expeditiously, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said the hotels and tourist reception centre hired by the government for lodging officials would have to be made available to the tourists as tourism had started picking up in the state.

Mufti, who was speaking at a presentation made by the state housing board about the proposed sites for construction of the units, also ordered for construction of working women's hostels, one each at Srinagar and Jammu. The land for the purpose should be identified at the earliest, he stressed and asked the officials to chase the proposal already forwarded to the Centre for early clearance.

The Chief Minister said the residential complexes for the government functionaries should be well-designed with all modern facilities.

Sayeed said minimum possible land should be used for raising spacious and beautiful multi-storeyed flats to serve as a model for others. Bureau Report
