Kolkata, Feb 12: CPI(ML) liberation would contest five seats in West Bengal and field its candidates in about 60-70 constituencie throughout the country in the coming parliamentary elections, party General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharjee today said. Addressing mediapersons here, Mr Bhattacharjee said his party would contest in Katoa, Krishnanagar, Raigunj, Jalpaiguri and Asansol in the state. The party wanted to field its candidates in about 60 to 70 constituencies throughout the country and the final list would be published after the party's central committee meeting in Patna during March 2-3, he said. Mr Bhattacharjee said his party would contest 10 seats in Uttar Pradesh followed by 8 in Jharkhand, 4 in Assam and 3 in Tamil Nadu.

While in Punjab, Rajasthan, Chandigarh and Orissa the party would fight 2 seats each, one each would be contested from Kerala, Karnataka, Tripura, Andhra Pradesh, Pondicherry and Andaman, he informed.

Referring to his party's election strategy, Mr Bhattacharjee said, 'our main fight is against BJP-led NDA government and we also do not consider any alliance under Congress will be able to solve the problems of the country.''

To a question on the possibility of any pact with the left parties, he said, ''no alliance is possible with CPI(M) and CPI as both the parties have taken the side of congress. But we will welcome any such proposal from parties like RSP and forward bloc, who have opposed the pact with the Congress.'' He said they would meet Chief Election Commissioner T S Krishnamurty soon to request him to ensure free and fair polls in Bihar and West Bengal and also urge him to send poll observers on the basis of assembly constituencies.
