Srinagar, May 27: Gearing up for Congress chief minister's conference and public rally by party chief Sonia Gandhi this weekend, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee today held meetings to finalise arrangements for the conclave here. Senior party leader and Deputy Chief Minister Mangat Ram Sharma held a high-level meeting with officials of security, intelligence and civil and police administration for finalising arrangements for the chief ministers and their entourage.
Sharma, who is coordinating arrangements for the event is in constant touch with AICC general secretary Ambika Soni and JKPCC chief Ghulam Nabi Azad.
He said Gandhi's public meeting at Baramulla would be a historic event and coalition partner People's Democratic Party was making all out efforts to ensure its success.
Sharma also held a series of meetings with party functionaries and ministerial colleagues for smooth conduct of the conclave to be attended by 15 chief ministers besides the executive members of the AICC.
Selection of Kashmir valley as the venue for the meet is seen as a shot in the arm for Mufti Sayeed government's efforts to promote tourism in the state.
The state government hopes the occasion will send out the message that everything is not lost in Kashmir and it continues to be the most admired destination.
The conclave and Gandhi's rally comes close on the heels of successful visit of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to the valley.
