Army build-up along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) in the wake of terrorist attack on Parliament has reduced infiltration by nearly 50 per cent in Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said on Thursday. The infiltration of heavily armed militants into Jammu and Kashmir from Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) along LoC and IB has fallen by nearly 50 per cent during the last four months of army build up on Indo-Pak border, the sources said. Giving details of the infiltration graph, they said that 171 infiltration bids were made along the LoC in Rajouri-Poonch belt during the first four months of this year against 328 during the corresponding period last year.
Of the 328 infiltration bids in the first four months of 2001, the highest number of 97 bids were made in March followed by 91 in January, 82 in February and 58 in April, the sources said. Against this, after the army build-up along the border, only 70 infiltration bids were made in March 2002 followed by 42 in January, 34 in April and 25 in February, after the 2002, they said.
It is totally wrong to say that border build-up has not been successful in containing infiltration. It has almost closed doors of militants's entrance into Jammu and Kashmir, the sources said.
