Seoul, May 03: North Korea will suspend flights to Beijing over fears that the deadly Sars virus could spread to
the secretive state, a South Korean news agency reported
today.
Air Koryo flights to and from Beijing will stop for a month starting on Tuesday, Yonhap reported, quoting the World Food Program (WFP).
This leaves the weekly flight from Vladivostok, Russia as the only air connection with the Stalinist state, according to WFP.
The north's ministry of public health also plans to quarantine all visitors from Sars-affected countries for 10 days upon arrival, it said.
Passengers will be assessed at the airport for symptoms of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), which has killed more than 430 people around the world.
China and neighbouring Hong Kong are the areas worst-affected by the deadly outbreak of the mysterious pneumonia-like respiratory disease, with 190 and 179 deaths respectively and more than 5,000 probable or confirmed cases.
