New Delhi, July 19: Government said today there was no proposal as of now to allow provident funds to invest in capital markets for realising better earnings.
"There is no proposal to invest general provident fund balances in capital markets," minister of state for finance Anant Geete informed Lok Sabha today in a written reply.

Investments of private provident funds, superannuation funds and gratuity funds were also carried out in conformity with the norms notified from time to time, he said.
As per the notification issued by finance ministry on March 1999, a minimum of 25 per cent of the incremental accretion by non-government PFs would have to be invested in central government papers and 15 per cent in state government papers.
A minimum of 40 per cent of the fund have to be invested in bonds/securities of public financial institutions including public sector banks and Infrastructure Development Finance Company. Bureau Report
