Olympia Fields, Illinois, June 16: Vijay singh knows he
cannot wait for U.S. Open leader Jim Furyk to slip up during the
final round today if the Fijian has any chance of landing another
major victory.
Singh began yesterday's third round tied for the lead on
seven under par with Furyk, but finished five shots behind the
American's 10-under mark after carding a two-over par round of
72.
''Jim is playing very well, I don't think he's going to shoot
worse than he did today'', two-time major winner Singh told
reporters.
''I have to go out there and catch up. I don't expect Jim to
slip up too much''.
Singh, 40, moved to nine under for the tournament on the sixth hole of the day at Olympia Fields, but the back nine caused him no end of problems with four bogeys -- three of them in the last three holes.
''I'm a little bit disappointed the way I finished'', he said.
''I was hitting good shots today, I played okay. I had two bad shots, one on 17 and one on the 12th (hole). I had a bad break on my lie on the 18th, but that's the way it goes.
''There are a lot of holes to play and I just have to worry about what I'm going to do. I have to see if I can make birdies early on''.
