Special judge B C Rajput on Thursday adjourned to August 17 the hearing in a case of embezzlement of funds against Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, Punjab's minister of rural development and panchayats in Punjab. Bhattal, a former chief minister, personally appeared in the court. The case was registered on the complaint of Bhatinda district amateur boxing association president Balwant Singh Dhillon who alleged that Bhattal had embezzled Rs 20 lakh from the chief minister's relief fund in 1996 during her tenure as chief minister. He had alleged that she had not paid Rs five lakh to the association as promised for building an indoor hall in spite of having withdrawn the money from the fund. Bureau Report
