One passenger was killed and over 24 injured when armed dacoits raided a sleeper class coach of the Varanasi bound Mahanagari Express near Shankergarh on Friday night. Government Railway Police (GRP) sources in Allahabad on Saturday said, the dacoits boarded the train at around 2130 hrs on Friday night and robbed the passengers at gun point. When the passengers resisted, they opened fire in which a retired head constable of the Railway Protection Force, Jeet Bahadur Singh was killed. Three of the injured passengers, who were admitted to a hospital in Allahabad are stated to be in a serious condition.
The dacoits looted valuables and property worth about Rs one lakh from the passengers. They then pulled the chain of the train near Shankargarh railway station and escaped.
The passengers lodged an fir with the police when the train reached Allahabad junction. Bureau Report
