Chennai, Jan 31: Major Opposition parties in Tamil Nadu boycotted the Assembly Session today protesting the suspension of DMK MLA Parithi Ilamvazhuthi for the Budget Session of the House. Illamvazhuthi was suspended for the Budget Session following a complaint by a Tamil Mannila Kamaraj Congress MLA M A Hakeem that he threatened to murder TMKC leader D Komaradoss. The assembly also decided to initiate criminal proceedings against the DMK member. DMK, Congress, PMK, CPI-M and CPI MLAs boycotted the proceedings in House. Though some MLAs had come to the assembly premises they did not enter the House, while the leaders of the legislature parties listened to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's reply to the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the Governor for his address, over a speaker fitted in the chamber of the leader of the opposition.

Speaker K Kalimuthu said it was better for the leaders to listen to the speech inside the House. Jayalalithaa, in her reply, said if the Opposition parties thought that she would express concern for their absence, they would be deceived saying she was replying in the house for the sake of people not for the Opposition.
