Kasaragod (Kerala), May 14: Eight policemen, including a senior official, were injured today when some processionists allegedly pelted stones at police during a massive rally organised on the occasion of milad-un-nabi near Uppala, about 35 km from here, police sources said. The rallyists dispersed after police used mild force, they said adding 30 people had been detained. Trouble began when police prevented a section of rallyists from taking out procession towards Kasaragod town after they breached certain conditions. Some of them started pelting stones on the policemen on duty, the sources said. Eight policemen, including Kasaragod Deputy Superintendent of Police K Jayendran, were injured in the stone pelting. Several vehicles were also damaged in the melee. Additional police personnel led by the SP was camping in the areas where the situation was reported to be under control, the sources said. A fleet of around 300 vehicles participated in the rally, they added.
