London, June 05: Dr Javaid Sadiq from Lahore is the first doctor to join a permanent post at Glasgow's Yorkhill Hospital, through a twinning venture He will learn how to perform keyhole surgery. His appointment is part of a programme wherein Yorkhill has been twinned for the past two years with the Children's Hospital and Institute of Child Health in Lahore to exchange knowledge and expertise.
Keyhole surgery has been carried out on youngsters in Scotland for a number of years, but it is yet to be introduced in Lahore.
Dr Sadiq, 40, will spend a year learning keyhole surgery to enable himself to help treat children in Lahore. He said: "It's a once in a lifetime opportunity and I'll be able to help many children when I go back. We have the equipment, but we need to be trained, and I will be the first to do this. It will benefit so many patients and we should be able to increase the number of children we treat as well."
Dr Sadiq, who has joined Yorkhill as senior registrar, is now looking forward to his wife Dazeen, 30, and two children Arbaz, 7, and Hammad, 3, joining him.
